Town Council to Appoint Members to Four Boards and Commissions

Town Council

The Town of Palm Beach seeks to appoint members to the following Boards and Commissions.  All citizens interested in pursuing an appointment must complete the appropriate application for service and submit the same to the Town Clerk’s Office by Friday, March 1, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.  The appointments will be on the agenda for consideration and potential action at the Town Council meeting on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

ARCHITECTURAL COMMISSION (ARCOM)

The Town seeks to appoint three (3) regular members to the Architectural Commission (ARCOM).  All terms expire on March 1, 2024, and two members are eligible for reappointment.  At least two members, but not more than three, shall be registered architects in the state.  If there are no applicants who are registered architects in the State of Florida, the Town may solicit and appoint architects registered outside the State of Florida to fill one of the architect seats.  In addition to the two registered architects, one commission member shall be a landscape architect, if available.  However, if a landscape architect is unavailable, then one member of the commission shall be a Master Gardener or someone with equivalent expertise in landscape.

ARCOM reviews and approves modifications to existing structures visible from public rights-of-way, new construction, and landscaping.  Members are appointed based on experience in art, architecture, community planning, land development, real estate, landscape architecture, or other relevant business, profession, or civic interest.  Members of the ARCOM shall be appointed for a three-year term and may serve no more than two consecutive terms.

This commission reviews and approves structural and landscape modifications to designated structures and properties.  Members are appointed by the Town Council based on having, to the greatest extent practicable, a special knowledge of and a known interest in landmarks preservation.  Members of the Landmarks Preservation Commission shall be appointed for a three-year term and may serve no more than two consecutive terms.

CODE ENFORCEMENT BOARD

The Town seeks to appoint three (3) regular members to the Code Enforcement Board.   These vacancies are due to the term expirations of three members, two of whom are eligible for reappointment.

The Code Enforcement Board hears cases involving violations of the Town Code and ordinances and imposes administrative fines and other noncriminal penalties where a pending or repeated violation exists.  Members must be registered voters of the Town and are appointed by the Town Council based on experience or interest in the fields of zoning and building control.

The Retirement Board of Trustees acts in a fiduciary capacity for the Town’s retirement funds and in an advisory capacity to the Town Council on matters relating to the administration of the Town’s various retirement plans.  The Retirement Board of Trustees will meet at least quarterly.
