[ARCHIVED] COYOTE SIGHTINGS & SAFETY

Movie Badge

The Police Department has received reports of coyote sightings throughout the Town from the North to the South Town limits.

Coyotes are a natural part of Florida’s ecosystem and maintain a preshttp://Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission - Coyotence on the island where they assist in managing rodent and small animal populations. Coyotes rarely pose a threat to people.  Coyotes have been periodically sighted throughout the entirety of the Town from the Palm Beach Inlet to 3475 S. Ocean Blvd.

As a precaution, we encourage our residents to keep their small pets in safely enclosed areas and walk dogs on short leashes in areas where coyotes have been sighted recently.  Residents are also encouraged to secure garbage cans and clean up pet food and fallen fruit.

You can report unusual coyote behavior (such as approaching people, aggressiveness, or a coyote with an obvious injury) to the Police Department at our non-emergency line (561) 838-5454 or the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (561) 625-5122.
