Green Initiative and Sustainability
Last Content Update:
The Town of Palm Beach cares about environmental sustainability. It has created a Green Initiative, which includes ordinances, practices, and programs to protect our vibrant coastal community's natural, exceptional environment. Through programs under this designation, the Town aims to maintain the integrity of the local environment.
Ongoing and Prior Initiatives:
Fertilizer Ban Ordinance 2024: To improve South Florida’s waterways and protect the local ecosystem, The Town of Palm Beach has implemented a recent Fertilizer Ban Ordinance. This policy begins June 1 and ends October 1 of 2024 and serves to support state-wide efforts to mitigate the growing concern of harmful algae blooms and maintain water quality. The Ordinance will also extend to the Town’s public parks. For more information about this policy, please visit the Town’s recent news briefing [https://townofpalmbeach.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2259] on this Ordinance.
Where Have All The Songbirds Gone? 2019-Present (2024): In 2018, the Town partnered with the Garden Club of Palm Beach and the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach to host the first session of the educational program - “Where Have All the Song Birds Gone?” This program educated residents on best practices that they can implement to keep gardens that are both beautiful and healthy to sustain vital habitats for butterflies, birds, and other essential pollinators critical to the planet’s overall health. Using native plants curtails the need for pesticides, thus supporting the healthy environment our pollinators need to thrive. The following videos show footage from the last meeting on this topic. (2024)
